Hard to capture what 'steep' is in some of the vineyards we source our wines from. But this shot of Ritme Celler 'coster' in DOQ Priorat starts to give a sense. This is heroic winemaking. And from these barren hills comes some of the richest, most complex and beautiful wine in the world.
I admired Albert Jane's wines long before I was asked to represent them. And they are especially fine now and one of my top recommendations as a replacement for California wines. Full-bodied, concentrated fruit and high in alcohol, but with more refinement, higher acidity for better balance. These are wines that can transition easily from dinner table to BBQ/campfire to a cozy night on the couch.
We still have a small allocation left and for the price of a mediocre Cali Cab, you can have a highly rated Spanish wine crafted from 'these them hills'.
And if you're a reluctant white drinker, the Mas Ritme Blanc is outrageously good. 100% garntaxa blanca, with partial oak fermentation and 11 months on lees is an unctuous mouthful. Jeb Dunnuck gives this 95 points and calls it "a gorgeous exploration of lemon peel, fresh orange, and white flower aromatics."
Support small agencies and smaller producers... in the world we find ourselves in, the struggle is real and this truly is a labour of love for many of us. There are plenty of wonderful people that fit into this description so if I don't have something you're looking for, please don't hesitate to reach out... I'm happy to match-make where I can. Cheers! 🥂
