Noticing slime, staining, or bad smells in your well water? It could be iron bacteria.
Iron bacteria are naturally occurring microorganisms found in some wells. While they are not known to cause disease, they can cause major nuisance problems such as:
- red, orange, yellow, or brown slimy buildup
- swampy, musty, rotten egg, or petroleum-like odour
oily rainbow sheen on water
- clogged pipes, reduced flow, fouled softeners, and pump issues
A common treatment is shock chlorination, but severe cases may need deeper professional cleaning and long-term filtration solutions.
We offer well water testing for: E. coli, total coliform, hardness, iron / iron bacteria, manganese, pH, tannin, TDS, color, rust, suspended matter, and odour.
