"I had the opportunity to try out this winter (the big green bags you've been seeing at your feed stores) and - I like them!

To be honest, I didn't think it would matter much when I first agreed to try them out.

During winter we have to switch over to bagged shavings for the season because we don't have proper outdoor storage for a dump truck load of shavings that can accommodate wind and snow and ice.

Every year I am irritated with how the flat, square shavings always stick together and create big clumps of wet stinky shavings. I miss our summer shavings. I miss the smaller particles and how well they absorb and how nice it is for the chickens to scratch and dig in them.

I miss how easy it is to top dress with those shavings and how nicely the 💩 sort of works its way down in through them instead of just sitting on top.

So I was pleasantly surprised when I opened up the totes of Ecostrat Sawdust and they were that small particle size that we love! For our Farm size, it will work really nicely to order these totes in the winter, which are weatherproof and easy to move around even with our small tractor. It will be great for me to grab a couple of them at the beginning of the winter months and store them next to the barn so I can quickly top dress or clean out when needed.

They also sell them by the bag at our local feed store - and their coverage in comparison to typical bagged shavings is better dollar for dollar! Anyway, I didn't think it would matter much but I'm really glad I tried them because now I've found a better option for our farm every winter that is going to make my work easier and hopefully the birds lives even better!
