Our Weekend tastings.

This new release collection is focused on Women in Wine. To celebrate International Women's Day, 5/6 of Saturday's wines will be made by female winemakers, plus a gorgeous local gamay to round out the collection. This weekend's release also happens to be one the strongest I've seen in a while.

Our Friday spirits tasting begins our month long focus on Irish whiskey. Bushmills 12 is a favourite of mine, and it's on sale for $5 off, so I'm hoping it's going to be a customer favourite.

When most people think of Australian wine, they think of big, ripe Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. But Australia also makes a plethora of excellent white wines.

A favourite of mine is the Torbreck Woodcutter's Semillon ($29.95), a full-bodied white with creamy texture but also refreshing acidity, chalky minerality, and complex fresh fruit flavours.

The d'Arenberg The Hermit Crab ($17.95), is my value pick, a blend of Viognier/Marsanne that packs a lot of ripe peach and floral flavour, with a rich, oily texture.

From refreshing, dry Rieslings to rich, creamy Chardonnay, give Australia a glance the next time you're in the liquor store.

Warm up this chilly winter day with a full bodied red from our first release of the year.

The Escorihuela Gascon 1884 Malbec ($18.95) is thick and tannic with bold earthy flavours including lovely black tea notes. Have this with steak or a rich stew.

The La Roseliere Cotes de Rhone ($19.95) has soft floral and black pepper notes over a solid core of fresh blackberries.

The Santos & Seixo Perspectiva Red ($13.95) offers uncommonly great value, a bit softer on the palate but well balanced with red and black currant flavours.

This week on my tasting bar!

On Saturday (January 24) we taste: a fruity sake; a salty, crisp Vermentino from Tuscany; a ripe, dry Vouvray from France; a dark-fruited a full Pinot Noir from Chile; a structured, earthy Cab-Merlot blend from Niagara; and a smooth, decadent Ripasso from Northern Italy.

On Friday (January 23) we taste the intense, cask-strength Aberlour A'bunadh Alba and the complex, fruity Dalmore Cigar Malt.

6 Vintages New Release Wines available to taste this Saturday (Dec 6) from noon to 5!

A super minerally white from Portugal; and a 7 year old developing Marsanne from Australia for the whites.

A Beaujolais that balances savoury pepper notes with ripe strawberry; an incredible value, dry Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile; and a well structed, intense Ribeira del Duero from Spain for the reds.

Finish that with a delicious, locally produced dessert wine made from raspberries.

Also available, two excellent whiskeys that redefine the quality expected from a blended Scotch. Available to sample Friday from 2 to 7 pm.
