Looking back on the Tea Festival last weekend, we sipped SO many delectable teas, here’s a few memorable favorites.
- “cooked” pu’erh, they won first place at the festival this year and it didn’t disappoint!
- Abode of Clouds (a malty black tea from India). The Tea Practitioner duo have a wide selection of curated teas, you can tell that careful thought has gone into every tea they carry. I really love their oolongs in general.
- Winter Frost (a complex but smooth black tea from the Nilgiri region of India. This one is a definite must-try!). Capital Tea generally has an impressive selection of Darjeeling teas. If you’re not sure which to choose, Margaret’s Hope Estate first flush and second flush are both amazing teas.
- Wild Black Tea (from Yunnan, listed on their website as Wild Old Tree Black Tea). This was delicious but they had so many great teas, we also loved the Honey Black Tea.
- Milk Oolong. We purchased many tins of this! Also, their peach oolong would be perfect for a summer cold brew.
- Sencha (green tea from Japan). Momo has an impressive selection of some of the best Japanese teas. Her sencha and hojicha are my personal favourites. When you want Japanese tea, try Momo! She also performed a “mini” Japanese tea ceremony demo at the festival. Wonderful to watch, she’s so knowledgeable!
Teaofthenorth.ca - fireweed wulong style infusion. These are infusions, not “real” teas but they’re very impressive! We enjoyed most of them and I can’t wait to see more from this Canadian company, using Canadian plants!
- Kumari Gold (black tea from Nepal). I wish I had found more time to chat with these vendors, I love that they source ethically from smaller companies.
- Spicy Hojicha! Everything you love about a nutty, roasted hojicha but with a subtle kick of chilli.
Also worth mentioning the purple tea from Kenya at as well as the award-winning Long Jing green tea from
There was also a vendor with quality, authentic Keemun black tea from China. Can’t recall the company name, though.
Already can’t wait for next year!!
