Hey Patty Lovers! Did you know that Feb. 23rd of each year has been declared Jamaican Patty Day in Toronto?

It’s to commemorate the “Patty Wars” of 1985 between Patty Manufacturers and Canadian Food Inspectors. The manufacturers were threatened with fines if they didn’t change the name as a Jamaican ‘beef patty’ didn’t match the technical definition of “beef patty” under the Meat Inspection Act. However, the Patty Vendors prevailed in the end.
