My sister and I were raised to believe you don’t judge a book by its cover.

In our café, if someone comes in asking for water or to use the washroom, we always help. Of course, after every visit we make sure everything is cleaned and sanitized properly to keep the space safe and hygienic for everyone.

But recently, while a man in the video asked for a glass of water with ice, I turned away for just a moment to get it… and in that short time, he opened our cash register and took money.

This post isn’t about seeking sympathy. Every dollar matters when you’re running a small business and working 24/7 to keep it going. We also have fellow business owners on this street who we stay in touch with, so please just be careful and aware.

We still believe in kindness and not judging people too quickly, but at the same time, basic human decency should always come first.

P.S. Watch how he comes in appearing slow and unwell, but then moves quickly right after.
