Spent Goods Bread Pickup Is Coming to Saponetti!

At .ca, we’re all about everyday habits that add up to real impact—from refilling your soap bottles in mason jars to cutting plastics at the source. That’s why we’re excited to pilot a new partnership with , a Toronto bakery that rescues spent grains from local breweries and turns them into hearty, nutrient-dense breads and baked goods instead of letting them go to waste.

How it works: Pre-order your Spent Goods favourites at https://inside.spentgoods.ca and select “Pickup at Saponetti” at checkout to grab your bread with your next refill run. You’ll get access to their sourdough loaves plus extras like frozen pizzas, soft pretzels, and English muffins—perfect for stocking a low-waste, feel-good kitchen in one stop.

Aside from the frozen pizzas, all bread products will be packed into a single recyclable plastic bag (vs individually bagged)

Together, we’re making it easier to align the things you eat, clean, and refill with the zero-waste values you already bring to Saponetti.

New at : Spent Goods Pickup – Your Beer’s Grains, Transformed into Bread

Ever wonder what happens to the grains after we brew your favorite Halo beer? Now they become delicious, nutrient-dense baked goods! We’re partnering with , a local Toronto bakery that rescues our spent grains and transforms them into artisan breads, pizzas, pretzels, and more – with 3x the fiber and added plant protein. It’s the ultimate brewery-to-bakery circle, and you can taste the results right here at Halo.

Collaboration is in the air 🌾✨
As large systems feel out of our control, people are choosing to focus on what we CAN build—together.

Here’s what’s happening in Toronto:

• A new co-op forming where members contribute $25/month to tackle affordable housing through community land trusts

• Spent Goods joining forces with , , + others to make local food healthier & more affordable

• Testing group buying clubs, community growing initiatives & chef partnerships

• Cooking together for Toronto Climate Week’s Climate-Friendly Recipe Challenge (👋 that’s us in this photo!)

The vision? A more collaborative food economy where we feed ourselves.

Finally, climate events that don’t feel depressing 🌱
Toronto’s making history with its first Climate Week (Oct 1-3) and we’re here for it ✨

While the world debates if it’s “too late” for climate action, our city is saying: “Let’s just show what’s possible.”
We’re not just attending—we’re feeding the movement 🥖 Sponsoring events where climate action looks like:
- Cooking together 👩‍🍳
- Conversations over cocktails 🥂
- Solarpunk fashion shows ✨
- Community, not sacrifice 💚

It’s about showing what’s possible when neighbors, businesses, and innovators collaborate locally.

Consider joining us. Let’s see what Toronto can accomplish when we show, not just talk about, what’s possible.

⚠️ Hope and hopelessness ahead.

David Suzuki recently said: “It’s too late—the fight against climate change is lost.”

That shook me. But it also helped me refocus.

What if we stop trying to fix broken systems—and start where we can make a difference?

At The Spent Goods Company, we act locally. We’ve fed 175,000 people with the support of 14 partners, 6 FTE jobs, and offset 9.6 mT eCO2.
Proof that when neighbours work together, good things rise. 🥖🍻

Maybe it’s not about giving up the fight—but about changing how and where we fight.

👇 What do you think of focusing on the local impact, where we can influence friends and family who are more likely to engage vs trying to fix global issues—where we have less control?

**🍔 From Beer to Bun: A True Toronto Collaboration 🍺➡️🍞**

Ever wondered what happens to the grain used to brew your favourite Amsterdam beer? Instead of going to landfill, it’s transformed into these fresh, fluffy burger buns—baked right here in Toronto.

Together with Amsterdam Brewery, we’re closing the loop: diverting their spent grains, cutting emissions, creating local jobs, and feeding Torontonians.

This is what happens when local businesses work *with* each other instead of in silos. It’s not just sustainable—it’s delicious innovation you can taste.

❤️ Show some love for for championing local food supply and raising the bar for what’s possible when we work together.

Last night, 40 strangers came together for a different kind of networking event.
Taco’d Bout Climate—organized by Climate North, Dihan from The Spent Goods Company & Organic Lifestyle, and sponsored by Centre for Social Innovation (CSI)—wasn’t your typical meet-and-greet.

Like a potluck, everyone played a role in preparing a spread of taco ingredients. After dinner, we shifted into book club mode, exploring thought-provoking questions in rotating pairs, sparking fresh conversations with each new topic.

Our goal? To move beyond individual action and embrace collective impact. Research shows that while personal efforts matter, working on solutions as part of a community is far more effective at reducing feelings of helplessness.

Simply put: knowing you’re not alone makes all the difference.
