At JRV Filipino Market, we believe that small actions lead to BIG change — and since the day we opened our doors on February 3, 2023, we have been quietly doing our part for the environment, one cardboard box and one beer can at a time!
INITIATIVE #1 — BOXES & CARTONS: FROM RECYCLING BIN TO MOVING TRUCK!
Every single week since we opened, our suppliers deliver hundreds of products to JRV — and with those deliveries come hundreds of cardboard boxes and cartons.
Our standard practice was to flatten them and toss them into the green recycling bins — the right thing to do, environmentally speaking!
But then something beautiful happened —OUR CUSTOMERS NOTICED!
One by one, our customers started asking: "Can I have those boxes for free?" — and of course, our answer was always a resounding "YES!"
Why? Because our Kababayan and neighbours in North York are always on the move — relocating to new apartments, new neighbourhoods, new chapters in life — and those boxes are exactly what they need!
So what used to go straight into the recycling bin is now going into the hands of families and individuals solving their real moving-day challenges — for FREE!
INITIATIVE #2 — EMPTY BEER CANS & BOTTLES: YOUR GARBAGE IS NOW GOLD!
Here is another JRV community win that we are incredibly proud of!
Whenever a customer purchases beer at JRV, our staff personally notifies them:
Bring back your empty beer cans and bottles to JRV — and we will give you $0.10 per can! No need to drive 5 km to the nearest Beer Store!
The response from our customers has been overwhelmingly positive — most are genuinely thankful and appreciative that they have a convenient local option right here in the neighbourhood!
Think about it — in the past, those empty cans and bottles were simply "thrown into the garbage", creating unnecessary waste and adding to our already strained environment.
Not anymore!
At JRV, your empties are returned, redeemed, and recycled — what was once garbage has literally turned into GOLD — just small amounts today, but substantial savings and a healthier environment in the long run!
