Did you know there’s a fish called escolar that’s banned for sale in countries like Japan, South Korea, and Italy because it can cause severe gastrointestinal illness?
The concerning part? A study by Oceana Canada found that every sample sold as “butterfish” they tested was actually escolar. They also found seafood mislabelling was widespread, with 44% of seafood samples being sold as something other than what they claimed to be.
It’s a reminder that knowing where your seafood comes from matters.
At Larry’s Catch, every box can be traced back to the Canadian fishing families it came from, so you know exactly what’s on your dinner table.
If you have friends or family who buy seafood regularly, consider sharing this with them. Everyone deserves to know what’s really on their plate.
