NEW IN STOCK: TANZANIA KARATU

Our first foray into the Gesha world, this coffee offers the sweet, delicate, floral notes characteristic to the prestigious bean. Gesha trees grow best at high altitudes (1,400+ MASL), yield less fruit and need to be picked at the perfect moment of ripeness; oftentimes hand-picked at peak maturity. This Gesha comes from the sibling team of Neel and Kavita Vohora in northern Tanzania. The Vohora family have been farming in the region since 1969 and have been innovating both in planting and processing methodology.

In the cup, we find gentle notes of jasmine and tart stone fruit with a tea-like finish. A very special addition to your coffee rotation.

TASTING NOTES: JASMINE, PEACH AND APRICOT

Available in 13oz and 2lb bags.

NEW IN STOCK: NICARAGUA DIPILTO

This Caturra is from Finca Buenos Aires Estates, situated in the premier coffee-growing region of Dipilto, in northern Nicaragua, near the Honduras border. The farm was founded by Luis Emilio Valladarez about 50 years ago and is located on sandy soil between 1,200–1,700 masl, where the microclimate is perfect for the production of specialty coffee. With such ideal conditions, it is no wonder they regularly place in the Cup of Excellence competitions.

A balanced coffee that showcases brown sugar sweetness upfront with bittersweet low tones. The cup finishes with long-lasting cocoa notes. A staple in your coffee rotation and one that aims to please.

This coffee is part of the Farm Gate program. Farm Gate prices are negotiated directly with the farmers at a rate 50% over Fair Trade, but often 100%+ more than Fair Trade minimums.

TASTING NOTES: CHOCOLATE-COVERED ALMOND AND BROWN SUGAR

Available in 12oz and 2lb bags.

NEW IN STOCK: BOLIVIA CARANAVI

An exciting addition to our single origin line-up, this bean comes from the Los Yungas region—the epicenter of Bolivia’s specialty coffee. This lot emerges from the 10-acre farm belonging to the Chambi family who have been growing coffee in the region for over 60 years. Particularly to note, the producer of this bean is Yulissa Chambi. At only 21 years of age and with the vast knowledge of her family’s legacy, she has devotedly cultivated the cherries from harvest to finished bean. This is an experimental anaerobically fermented washed coffee, the first ever in our roster. In the cup, we find sweet, sticky, fruited notes of apricot and pomegranate with a milky chocolate finish. A special addition to all your festivities during the holiday season!

TASTING NOTES: HAZELNUT, MILK CHOCOLATE, POMEGRANATE AND APRICOT

Available in 12oz and 2lb bags.

NEW IN STOCK: RWANDA NYAMASHEKE

Kanzu washing station is located in the Nyamasheke district of Rwanda’s Western province. Kanzu is a jewel of a place — organized and well-run, set against green hills of coffee, cassava, sweet potato, sugar cane, bananas, and beans at 1,900 masl. Kanzu employs 50 local men and women during the harvest season. After arriving at the washing station, cherry is floated and pulped. The coffee then undergoes a dry fermentation for 16-18 hours before the remaining mucilage is washed off, followed by soaking. This typically takes up to 18 hours before the coffee is dried on raised beds with a mesh bottom, allowing for air circulation.

Big hits of cherry and honey come through on the aroma and palate, while notes of citrus and sweet ginger follow. Try it brewed over ice for a refreshing summer treat!

Available in 12oz and 2lb bags.

TASTING NOTES: CHERRY, HONEYCOMB, CITRUS AND CANDIED GINGER

NEW IN STOCK: COSTA RICA CENTRAL VALLEY

Managed by the wife and husband team of Silvia Vindas and Fernando Elias, the “La Rosa” farm in Cerro Alto, has been farmed by the same family for four generations. Cerro Alto is one of the earliest micro-mills to be erected in the early 2000s, and has since achieved carbon neutral certification. The coffee bean produced here is of a “white honey” process – Costa Rica’s standard of a “fully washed” coffee. In a white honey process, a thin layer of fruit remains intact during the drying phase after the bean is soaked and washed in water. This results in a more vibrant and clean taste, akin to most Costa Rican coffees.

In the cup, we’re hit with flavours of caramelized sugars, raisin bread, toasted sesame and a cocoa powder finish. A perfect accompaniment to a wintry day.

Available in 12oz and 2lb bags.

NEW IN STOCK: MEXICO TIERRA BLANCA
The indigenous Zapotec population in Tierra Blanca has grown coffee for many generations. These beans are a collective effort from 27 local farmers from the region – all members of the UNECAFE cooperative. UNECAFE has been around since 2009, helping farmers recover from the coffee price crisis of the late 80s by connecting them with the global market, providing technical support and assisting with certifications. As a result, the co-op has helped to restore price stability to Tierra Blanca coffee farmers.

This certified-organic coffee is also part of the Farm Gate program from our friends at Coffee Shrub. Farm Gate prices are negotiated directly with the farmers at a rate 50% over Fair Trade, but often are 100%+ more than Fair Trade minimums.

The cup exhibits a syrupy honey base accented by toasted almonds and dried fruit. A real treat to start your day.

Available in 12oz and 2lb bags.
TASTING NOTES: TORRONE NOUGAT, VANILLA AND FRUIT
