A Taste of Heritage
This week, The Inner Harvest is paying homage to an amazing cook and mentor in my life: my grandmother Edna. Although she was the daughter of Italian immigrants, she mastered many different cuisines.
She taught me that the most special meals are simple, home-cooked with the best ingredients, and shared with love.
This dish is a tribute to her spirit:
šµš¹ Arroz de Polvo (Portuguese Octopus Rice): This is a true classic from the coastal regions of Portugal. It is not a dry rice dish, but a rich, soupy stew (malandrinho style). We simmer the octopus until perfectly tender, then cook the rice directly in the infused broth, absorbing the deep, authentic flavors of the sea, tomato, and aromatics. It's the definition of hearty, comforting elegance.
šæ Paired with Broccoli Aglio e Olio: To balance the richness of the rice, we pair it with bright, fresh broccoli tossed in garlic and extra virgin olive oil. This classic Italian approach (Aglio e Olio) keeps the greens vibrant and punchy. Itās a clean, simple flavor that highlights the fresh, natural ingredients we believe in, offering a powerful boost of vitamins and antioxidants.
This meal is more than just dinner; it's a sensory journey that honors history and the simple, enduring joy of a home kitchen. Every spoonful is a connection to the past, reminding us that the greatest recipes are those passed down with love.
