ILF Tapeka 77 ~ Bianchetto has delivered a robust litter of ten piglets, marking the final litter of 2025 for Ivanleigh Farms. This group has been fondly designated as our âThrowback Litter,â underscoring the significance of their genetic heritage. Bianchetto, a fifth-generation ILF Tapeka, was paired with one of our most seasoned working boars, ILF Mahia Love 4 ~ Orion, to produce this special litter.
As 2025 draws to a close, it prompts us to reflect on our journeyâwhere we began, what we have accomplished, and the aspirations guiding us forward. ILF Mahia Love 4 ~ Orion holds particular importance, as he was produced in the early days of our herd. Orion and his siblings demonstrated exceptional growth rates and conformation, giving us a glimpse into the promising future of the Kunekune breed. Their performance provided undeniable proof that the potential for superior pork production was always embedded within the breedâs genetics.
Back in 2016, the idea of raising a Kunekune hog to 200lbs by 12 months seemed almost impossible and was often met with skepticism and criticism. Despite this, we remained steadfast in our goals, convinced of what could be achieved. Now, as we approach 2026ânearly a decade laterâour Kunekune hogs are beginning to reach 300lbs within their first year. This success is the result of unwavering commitment, determination, and hard work. Through careful selective breeding, ongoing evaluation of bone structure, muscle development, growth rates, litter sizes, and weaning weights, alongside diligent monitoring of input-output ratios, the use of ultrasound for carcass evaluation, genetic testing, and a rigorous culling process, we have surpassed our initial expectations. Yet, we are certain that even greater achievements are within reach and remain dedicated to advancing our breeding program in the coming years.
In 2026, our mission continues: to champion the Kunekune breed as a premier choice for profitable pastured pork production. We have always bred with purpose and will steadfastly maintain this approach, prioritizing quality and performance over numbers.
