Reminder: The public comment period for the draft Beef Cattle Code of Practice closes Friday (June 12) ‼️

We encourage producers to take 20–30 minutes to review the draft and submit feedback. Producer input is crucial in helping shape future on-farm animal welfare standards.

All comments are valuable - whether you support a recommendation or have concerns. If providing negative feedback, please include as much detail as possible on how the proposed changes could impact you and your operation.

Orchard grass is starting to head out the end of last week/this weekend in the Stewiacke area.

For those planning to harvest soon: It is tempting to try to get every inch of forage you can by cutting closer to the soil, especially if you are looking to build back reserves used last season. However, leaving more plant behind, by cutting closer to 4 inches in height, will allow the forages to recover faster. When combined with an application of fertilizer shortly after the harvested forage has been removed from the field, we should see faster regrowth and higher volumes in second cut.
