Located in Durham Region, Foggy River Farm is an ecologically-minded homestead that grows nutritionally dense food and medicinal herbs. We turn our harvest into small-batch seasonal products including loose-leaf tea blends and body care products. Our goal is to educate people on how to design and utilize food, fuel, and medicine systems in a way that is restorative to the planet. Foggy River’s herbal teas are ecologically grown or ethically wildcrafted, hand-picked at peak potency, and carefully blended to reveal the unique qualities of each plant. Unlike most herbal teas sold in Canada, Foggy River Farm is 100% farm-to-cup - grown here not flown here - without chemicals, and free of artificial flavour and colour. Our culinary blends are here! 🌿
A couple of years ago we pressed pause on this product line to simplify what we were offering. We didn't know if we'd bring them back, but so many of you (relentlessly) asked about them at every market that we finally said yes!

Then came the logistics. Moving from glass jars to pouches. Designing labels. Replanting all of the crops. Waiting for them to grow.

And this week, they're finally packaged up and ready for you! The recipes haven't changed. If you're new to them, these are the blends we created to take everyday cooking up a notch:

For the first several years of our business, we only sold our products at the farmers market, which meant we literally met every single one of our customers in person.

As we’ve grown, our tea is now available in many fabulous small shops across Canada. Which means there’s people drinking our tea who we’ve never met! Crazy.

I realize we’re all hanging onto summer for dear life, and maybe not ready to hear about all the helpful cold & flu herbs.

But I can’t wait any longer to talk about Astragalus! We spent FIVE years growing the roots for this tincture, so patience has run out. I’ve wanted this herb for myself for as long as we’ve been growing it!

Astragalus is used in herbal medicine to help maintain a healthy immune system, and as an adaptogen to help increase energy and resistance to stress.

Here’s the important thing to know: astragalus is what’s called an immunomodulating herb - different from immune boosting. Rather than revving your system quickly to fight infection (like echinacea), it helps the immune system respond appropriately - supporting it when it’s under-active, and helping calm it when its overactive. It’s a daily, foundational herb.

Astragalus also needs consistent use for a few weeks for best effects, which is the second reason I’m sharing it now, before the season turns.

If you know fall and winter tend to run you down, now’s the time to start.
