Ever wonder why you never see fresh elderberries in the grocery store? In their raw form, elderberries are toxic, and contain cyanogenic properties that can result in some adverse physical symptoms.

!HOWEVER! Cooking the berries down will allow the toxins to escape, resulting in a completely safe and delicious syrup, that has been used for centuries as a natural remedy to alleviate colds and flus! Popular elderberry products include syrup, jelly, and even wine!

The elderberry was popularized in the 1944 dark comedy play adaptation of “Arsenic and Old Lace” in which a couple of mischievous characters lace their victims’ elderberry wine with arsenic strychnine!

But don’t worry, our newly stocked elderberry jelly will not make you sleep ‘permanently’ through a cold 🤧

We’re super excited to have Dawson & Duncan live on our Shady Sheep patio from 2-5pm this Saturday!
