Governance Events and Engagement Coordinator
Location: Skidegate or Masset, Haida Gwaii

About the Role
Reporting to the Governance Director, The Governance Events and Engagement Coordinator is responsible for the end-to-end planning and coordination of Council of the Haida Nation public meetings, events and regional leadership support.

Focusing on building partnerships with local governments. The Coordinator will work closely with elected leaders of each region to support regional engagements and gatherings for Haida citizens. Additionally, the Coordinator will be required to seek grants and proposals that are available for the nation to support governance, strategic planning and team building.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Establish standardized procedures for organizational planning with Haida ways of being as the foundation
· Inventory management of all supplies needed for meetings and events
· Create advertisements, posters, and collaborate with Communications Department
· Effective collaboration with internal and external partners
· Establish and maintain a regional registry to support with information and resource distributions, working with the Citizenship Program
· Work directly with the governance team and elected leaders supporting regional gatherings and potential food fish distribution
· Proposal and grant writing (Training available through CHN)
· Analyze, report and make recommendations for future events
· Schedule debriefing sessions with involved partners after each event
· Ensure all CHN policies and procedures are adhered to

Qualifications & Skills
· Knowledge of Haida culture, politics and social structures
· Knowledge of the policies and procedures of the Council of the Haida Nation
· Excellent people skills, with a collaborative approach to work.
· Detail-oriented with the ability to adapt to a changing work environment effectively and efficiently.
· Ability to maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally
· Proven capacity/experience in event planning
· Class 5 Drivers License
· Preference will be given to Haida candidates as per Section 41 of the Human Rights Code.

What We Offer
· Hourly rate: $34.00 - $39.14
· Full-time (35–40 hrs/week) with paid time off, including an additional 2-week office closure during the winter break.

Gitga'at First Nation is calling on all Gitga'at artists to submit original artwork honouring Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, September 30th.

We are looking for artwork that reflects the spirit of truth, healing, reconciliation, and remembrance, honouring residential school Survivors, those who never came home, and their families and communities.

The winning design will be featured on this year's Truth and Reconciliation swag.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
+ High-quality digital image of your artwork
+ Your name and contact information
+ Title of the artwork
+ A brief description of your piece and its meaning

European Green Crab Detected in Striae Islands

CHN has confirmed presence of live Ts’a’ám SGénuwaas European Green Crab in the Gwaay T’úwaans Striae Islands (see map in image). CHN will be developing and initiating a response strategy in the coming weeks.

Recent detections of European Green Crab in the Gwaau T’úwaans Striae Islands marked in red.

Green Crab have FIVE POINTS on either side of their eyes, are up to 10cm wide and are not always green.

Please help slow the spread by thoroughly cleaning, flushing and inspecting boats and marine equipment prior to moving them from areas with known Ts’a’ám SGénuwaas Green Crab populations (ex X̲aana K̲aahlii Skidegate Inlet, K̲’aasda G̲awG̲a Copper Bay and the Tllaal G̲andlaay Tlell River) to other marine areas on Haida Gwaii.

European Green Crab sightings can be reported by texting or emailing a photo and location to [email protected].
