We are El Comalón, a small business created by a Mexican couple who moved to Vancouver and decided to bring a little piece of home with them.
When we first arrived, one of the things we missed most was fresh flour tortillas. We tried a few commercial brands, but quickly realized they were packed with far too many preservatives, which noticeably affected the flavor and aroma — and simply weren’t something we felt good about consuming long-term.
So we decided to do what any Mexican with cravings and nostalgia would do: make them ourselves. By hand. Using traditional recipes from Northern Mexico, where flour tortillas are an essential part of the table — and the heart.
In our culture, food is more than nourishment — it’s family, music playing in the background, laughter around the table, and fresh tortillas on the comal, made from recipes passed down with pride from one generation to the next. We started making them for ourselves, then for friends at gatherings and celebrations… until one day we decided to share them with our neighborhood. The response was incredible.
Little by little, orders began to grow, and what started as a small local project began turning into something bigger. People began recommending us to their friends and family, and we started receiving more and more orders through word of mouth — something that truly means the world to us. Today, we’re working to make our tortillas available in local shops, and we’ve opened this page as part of that growth — to share updates, ordering information, locations, and news.
For now, we will continue taking orders the same way we always have. As soon as we have an official point of sale, we’ll be sure to let you know right away.
To those who have been with us since day one: thank you for being part of this story.
