A little piece of Kitsilano history… 🍷
This is our building at 3669 West 4th Avenue in 1940, when it was home to Orange Crush B.C. Ltd. — more than 85 years ago.
Today, the same building is home to Okanagan Estate Wine Cellars, but some of its history is still hiding underneath us.
On the west side of the building there’s an old sealed-off basement area that still contains pieces of the original cannery/bottling machinery. I haven’t been down there myself in more than 15 years, but it’s a pretty remarkable reminder of what this stretch of West 4th once looked like.
The old arched second-storey windows are still there, and when you compare the two photos, you can really see the bones of the 1940 building in the one standing today.
For everyone who shops with us on West 4th — next time you walk through the door, you’re walking into a little piece of Kitsilano history.
1940 → 2026. Same building. A very different kind of bottle. 🍊➡️🍷
