On the unceded, ancestral, and traditional homelands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh nations, on National Truth and Reconciliation day, we here at Arkee's No Frills would like to take a moment to recognize the importance of taking the time to remember those who came before us, and the extreme importance of a day like today.
From coast to coast to coast, for over 400 years our indigenous brothers and sisters have faced extreme hardships, racism, and prejudice throughout their lives across this vast country, a prejudice that is unfortunatly, still alive and well today, we here recognize the importance of vocalizing and understanding this fact, and want to do our small but important part in remembering those who had to suffer through not only residential schools and indian day schools, but the extreme racism in their day to day lives that unfortunately still exists to this day.
It may be easy to forget and act like these things happened so long ago and that it is no longer important, but the fact is, the racism that genations of our first peoples faced for hundreds of years, is still here, and there is still so much work to be done.
We at Arkee's No Frills is proud to recognize this fact and vocalize it on a day like today where we all must speak up, and recognize that true Reconciliationbegins on a personal indivitual level. Take a moment today to remember our past and do our best to reconcile, recognize, listen, and learn and something that not many of us fully understand.
Arkee's No Frills is a proud part of grandview woodland neighbourhood, one of the most densely populated urban indigenous neighbourhoods in the entire country, and we are always here to help and serve our indigenous friends, now and forever. Never forget never be complacent, and always remember the good, and the bad parts of our collective history as a nation.
Special thanks to our wonderful management team, Derek, Owen, and our district manager Dan for coming today.
