VanFoodies.com - Vancouver Foodies' Adventures A Vancouver-based food blog since 2009. Eating out & home cooking. Beer & wine. Culinary events. Travel. Outdoors. Mostly local.

Joyce started VanFoodies.com in 2009 to write about one of her biggest interests: food. Since then, some of her friends have also come on board to share their food adventures as well. Whether they’re famous fine dining restaurants, neighbourhood gems, or hearty home cooking, you can read about them here. While the main focus is the Vancouver area (i.e. Lower Mainland), you will also see some trave

l posts. Don’t be surprised if you see some coverage on beer and wine – it’s always good to have a drink or two with your meal!

Yesterday I was at the Pac Rim Sports Patio Fairmont Pacific Rim watching Canada Soccer play and receive their first ever World Cup point. Such a good vibe here in this outdoor plaza bringing together sports fans and food lovers from everywhere. Throughout the summer they will be broadcasting key sporting events while two food trucks serving up delicious bites and sips.

Pac Rim Food food truck runs in partnership with 33 Acres Brewing Company ™ featuring fresh tacos paired with craft beer by 33 Acres. New this year is the Tu'i Hiapsek Treats Trailer by HYPE CHOCOLATE CO, an indigenous women-owned concept offering a selection of handcrafted chocolate, Dubai Chocolate Berries, sweet & savoury Bannock, expertly crafted coffee drinks, and exclusive Matcha Latte inspired by Fairmont Pacific Rim.

I was here for the media event so there were extra cocktail stations with delicious cocktails by June Botanist Dining The Keefer Bar and Meo.

Catch all your soccer games at Tsawwassen Mills while doing some shopping and grabbing a bite! The main food court has been transformed into Soccer Central with two big screens broadcasting every game and there's not a bad seat in the house. In addition to your usual food court selections, I also found Chinese BBQ, soup dumplings and brisket noodle soup made to order in this food court. There's also a ramen shop and two BBT shops nearby, so lots of options to fill your bellies before and after watching a game.

I heard that they are also doing giveaways on Thursdays and other activities until the competition is over in July. Make sure to follow them for updates!

I specifically picked my D&D character's best friend's name to be Lambrusco because I love the wine, but I didn't realize Lambrusco is actually a family of grape varieties. It's more than just sparkling red. You could have something like a sparkling rosé, more floral and acidic, or one that gives you berry fruit, fuller body and more tannic. Which makes Lambrusco wines super versatile in food pairing, from cheese and charcuterie, to seafood, to fried chicken and a steak sandwich.

At this wine luncheon, I got to try mine Lambrusco wines and here they are and I've highlighted the ones I liked:

🍷Umberto Cavicchioli e Figli L’Ancestrale 🧡
🍷Umberto Cavicchioli e Figli Vigna del Cristo
🍷Umberto Cavicchioli e Figli Rosé del Cristo
🍷Righi Lambrusco di Sorbara
🍷Casali Viticultori Pra di Bosso Lambrusco Reggiano Secco 💚
🍷Albinea Canali Lambrusco Ottocentonero
🍷Casali Viticultori Lambruscone
🍷Casali Viticultori Pra di Bosso Lambrusco Reggiano 🍷Amabile 🧡
🍷Umberto Cavicchioli Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro

is opening in Richmond this week and they specialize in 皺皮雙皮奶Wrinkled Skin Milk Pudding and no one else is doing it. It's silky and creamy, and you can choose ones with toppings including red bean, peach gum and taro. I got to try a few items and I liked that the flavours were nice and they were not super sweet -- very true to Cantonese style desserts. Their menu is actually quite big and I spied other items like Rich Durian Milk Delight, Red Bean Soup with Handmade Mochi, Build-Your-Own dessert, and drinks. But for the first two opening days, June 2-3, they only serve a smaller menu at 40% off. I'll have to go back to try other menu items later. Check out their handle for their opening promotions!

What I tried:

Red Bean Wrinkled Skin Milk Pudding 紅豆皺皮雙皮奶
Classic Mango Pomelo Sago 經典楊枝甘露
Hé Housemade Fresh Egg Tart 招牌焦糖蛋撻

Hé Made 和甜記 is located near the corner of No. 3 Road and Westminster Highway (where London Drug and TD are). There is free parking at the building.

There is also going to be a market with a variety of vendors. I didn't get the chance to try everything so I will have to go back for another visit and check out the market too.

They're celebrating the Grand Opening on May 30-31. Will you check it out? Which brand are you most excited about?

This is your sign to visit an OG in the city. recently renovated their lounge and it's a great place for Happy Hour, aperitif, a night cap, or any get-together or special occasions. Their cocktail menu is so fun. They create infusions with their spirits, and make syrups and mixers in-house for their cocktails. There's also a machine to carbonate their cocktail mix. They do so much in that cozy space in East Vancouver!

If you like something fruity or on the sweeter side, I really enjoyed the Funcrusher Plus with a little bit of heat or the Saturnday Morning Cereal made with clarified Froot Loops milk. The mezcal in the Stolen Valor and Lapsang tea in the Smoke & the Banditti make them both a smokey cocktail if that's your jam. You can also order a flight to sample their spirits (I recommend Commodore Canadian Single Malt Whisky, Wallflower Gin, Strawberry Wallflower Gin, Limoncello, and Crème de Cassis). They make a delicious Limoncello using the byproduct of their gin production and it's only available occasionally, so I have to go back to get some when it becomes available next.

They have a small snack menu, including rotating flavours of popcorn. Lucky for us it was actually a mix of Dill & Pickle, White Cheddar and Ketchup and that was a yummy mix!
