City Beet Farm

City Beet Farm An urban farm in Vancouver aiming to provide local, sustainable, affordable, and healthy food within city limits. Check us out at www.citybeetfarm.com!

City Beet Farm is an urban farm business in Vancouver, growing and harvesting vegetable crops on front and back lawns in the Riley Park/Mount Pleasant area. Our vegetables are grown using organic methods that are healthy for people and the environment. One of our major goals is to reclaim space in urban environments and transform them into productive gardens that many people in the community can b

enefit from. The veggies we grow are used to fill our community shared agriculture (CSA) shares, a program where shareholders pay for a share the beginning of the growing season and are provided a weekly box of veggies until the end of the season (18-20 weeks).

Not only is a CSA subscription a great way to get your home cooking and eating in sync with the seasons, it’s also the easiest and most direct way of contributing to a sustainable local food system. AND it makes for happy farmers, which is always a good thing!

Something I loved about running a CSA last year was the weekly setup. I loved the purposeful feeling of getting things ready, the way the setup evolved from one week to the next, laying things out market-style so our members still got choices within their weekly share, and I loved making everything look cute.

The people who showed up right at 4:00 each week know that my final setup step was always to take a picture of the CSA and market tables. I wanted to remember every week, and to be able to reflect on what worked and what didn’t to make improvements. As I was taking the photos, I knew I wanted to have them all in one place at some point.

Apparently this week was CSA Week, so it seemed like a good time to finally make that happen. Above are just a few of the weekly setups, but I’ve got all 19 weeks up in a post on the blog at citybeetfarm.com if you want to see the progression.

I’m currently trying to think up new ways of arranging the pickup tent for the season ahead, and can’t wait to see how it all works out. If you’d like to join us for the 2022 CSA we’ve still got spots left and we’d love to grow your veggies and to see you every week.
