Tama Organic Organic Specialty Grocery Store, Japanese specialty produce, Organic Vegan Foods like brown rice Onigiri, Vegan Bento Box, supporting local organic farmers.

We make Natto, Miso, Amazake and more...! So what's great about Tama? Other than the great family at Tama, we are all about being a part of the organic community as a whole. The concept of 'Tama' is of 'oneness in both peace and health' where people can live harmoniously with others as well as their part in nature. And so we support our dedicated LOCAL organic farmers and we bring their flavourful foods straight to you (seasonal)! Many of our foods we carry are inspired by the Macrobiotic diet or Oriental food culture (ie. 3 year old miso, Raw soy sauce, Natto, Brown Rice, fresh Daikon with leaves and more!). Some foods may be new to you, but be adventurous and give it a try or better yet, ask us and we are more than happy to help you find a way to eat it! At Tama, we are passionate about sharing a healthy life through organic foods and gaining a greater appreciation for where it comes from, nature.

We ran out of Umi Nami Daikon at the store.
Naturally, we had to make a visit to the farm.

Yesterday we helped harvest, wash the daikon, dry it, weigh it and pack it !

We helped on the farm from 930am until 530pm - a full shift 💪🏼

We didn't think we would be at the farm for this long but it sure was fulfilling! It tired us out and we barely made it through dinner but we are bringing back 200kg of daikon!

It will be available in store Friday!

The squashes that are kicking off the season!

Kabocha Squash - sweet and nutty! The texture is a blend of sweet potato and pumpkin. Roast it, steam it, add it to miso soups etc!

Red Kuri Squash - mellow, chestnut like sweetness. The skin is edible so no peeling required - yay! Make soups, mash , blend to add to any of your fall themed baking.

Honeynut Squash - a caramel like sweetness, a tad bit more intense in flavour than its cousin; the Butternut Squash. Prepare it like Butternut by slicing it in halves and roasting in the ove !

Preparing to pickle fresh ginger

*don't throw out the green bits. Chop them up finely and add it to a stir fry or sautée. They will add a nice mild ginger freshness to your dish!

We have 3 beautiful spices blends from Chai Masala, Curry Masala and Turmeric Mylk.

(We highly recommend the Chai Masala! Simply mix the spice blend into your favourite milk/mylk product, gently stir in as you heat up your milk. Once it is heated and spice is incorporated, add a small dash of maple syrup...and enjoy!)

Squash season is upon us !

Are you Team Squash or Team bring-back-summer-fruits?

(From Cedar Isle Farm - Honeynut Squash and Red Kuri Squash)

Honeynut is similar to Butternut in terms of recipes and use. It has a more intense caramel sweetness to it when you roast it!

Red Kuri is rich and sweet - the best part is you don't need to peel it as the skin is quite thin despite its feel!
