Sunshine in the Garden — Calendula
He Ling Yu Herbs seems to be zooming in on all the sunshine in our gardens this week.
Our beautiful blossoms of Calendula (Calendula officinalis) continue to surprise us with their shifting colours—from soft golden yellows to brilliant oranges and every warm shade in between.
Their blossoms are popping up everywhere as we patiently gather and dry them, waiting for our jars to slowly fill during their sweet-bearing season. There is something so special about watching these little pieces of sunshine travel from seed, to blossom, to drying rack, and finally into our family apothecary.
Calendula is an ingredient in our He Chang (Gut Glory) herbal tea, where we value this beautiful flower for its traditional use in supporting gut health and digestive healing.
In tea, calendula is traditionally valued for helping to:
• Soothe digestive irritation
• Calm and support the gut lining
• Support the body’s natural healing processes
• Ease feelings of digestive discomfort
• Provide gentle anti-inflammatory and antioxidant support
She also makes her way into our Sweet Body Butter, where calendula-infused oil brings her gentle goodness to our body’s largest organ—our skin.
For the skin, calendula is traditionally used to:
• Soothe dry, sensitive or irritated skin
• Support the healing of minor cuts, scrapes and superficial skin irritation
• Calm redness and inflammation
• Nourish and soften rough or weather-worn skin
• Support healthy tissue repair
In short: Calendula is a gentle, golden flower traditionally valued for supporting gut health, soothing digestive irritation, calming the skin and encouraging the body’s natural healing processes. She also offers antioxidant plant compounds and brings beauty, nourishment and pollinator-friendly goodness to the garden.
From supporting our gardens and pollinators to filling our drying racks, tea jars and body-care creations, Calendula truly is a little bit of captured sunshine.
Grown, gathered and prepared with care at He Ling Yu Herbs. From our family to yours.
