The Art of Dance Project

The Sadok Ukrainian Dance Ensemble of Vernon, B.C. is excited to invite artists from our community to participate in a very special project celebrating THE ART OF DANCE.

As part of this milestone celebration, Sadok is creating a collaborative artwork that brings together contributions from the local art community showcasing the many regions and costumes of Ukraine. Sadok celebrates sharing our culture with the world for over 26 years. The final art pieces will be sold online via silent auction as a fundraiser for Ukraine.
The art collection entitled, THE ART OF DANCE, will be showcased at the Okanagan Ukrainian Festival on May 30th, 2027 at the Vernon Performing Arts Center. This collection will be shown on the Big Screen during the performance and on easels in the foyer during the Okanagan Festival.

This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase local artists and Sadok’s Ukrainian culture, heritage, and creativity.

We are seeking artists who can donate an art piece (framed if necessary) that reflects the Ukrainian regional costume that Sadok performs. A note to artists that each region of Ukraine, each village, has its own unique and meaningful symbols, patterns, and embroidered motifs.
A regional costume list and Sadok photos provided by Wayne Emde Photography will be made available to ensure a unique collaborative outcome.

This project celebrates:
* Our local Ukrainian heritage
** Our local artists

Expression of Interest submissions are due by October 15, 2026.
Artists must submit examples of artwork for review, which can be unrelated to Ukrainian dance.
Artwork to be completed for the silent auction by March 15, 2027.

Sadok Culture Class celebrating Ukrainian Heritage Day (Sept 7th) with a lesson on the history of Ukrainian immigration to Canada which spans more than 135 years, from the first pioneer settlers who arrived on the prairies in 1891 to the hundreds of thousands who fled the 2022 Russian invasion. Across five major waves, Ukrainian immigrants transformed Canada's demographic landscape, contributed to its agricultural and industrial development, and built one of the most organized diaspora communities in the world. This timeline traces every key date, policy shift and milestone in the history of Ukrainian immigration to Canada.
A provincial proclamation was received from MLA Sandhu to commemorate Ukrainian Heritage Day to the local Ukrainian Canadian Congress Thompson Okanagan Branch.
The art projects this month have included mosaic Tryzub/Trident, Ukraine's Coat of Arms and annual wheat weaving with thanks to an anonymous donor of Armstrong Wheat. We cannot do our traditional wheat weaving without local wheat!
