My word today….luxury. Family members are all close by, dinner is sorted, the blooms are generous and I get to create what I like!! Luxurious. Like being at the Four Seasons without leaving home!

Working hard, sleeping long, eating lots, all for these moments. Celebrate the victories, I say. Happy Sunday.

The next Divas are blooming their hearts out. Romantic roses. In the stand this morning.

Flower farming can be repetitive and exhausting. Now, when I’m tired, I need food, and I can feel my spirits dipping, I play this game. I love that colour is such an intrinsic aspect of my job. And I love looking and experimenting and seeing what feels good. More and more for me it is about tones.

So I’ve never successfully grown forget me nots in my tunnel but this year they are 4 feet high and exploding. My mock orange shrubs are finally blooming after 4 years waiting. I just discovered a new way of planting amaranth in crates and these are my first stems- they are perfect! And my fall sown Ammi Majus is making everything frothy and soft and wondrous. And rooster Maestro made an appearance. I feel so proud! A small intimate moment on the farm.

My theme for the farm this year is to become a better grower, ie to learn more about the plants! After 20 years of growing I am reminded every day how much I don’t know. This simple melange of stems on my kitchen counter is answering so many questions. And of course I get to add bits of beauty as well. Not “designed” so no pressure to look professional, just quick snips of stems I’d like to get to know better. Happy Thursday!

The next diva taking the stage this week- mock orange. We have singles and doubles but I prefer the airy bending nature of the singles. We planted shrubs and after 3 years of no flowers we planted again and now have bundles. Finally. But the season is short. Florist friends have said this is their favorite scent!

Peonies and white lites and alchemilla mollis. For your beauty fix this morning. Beauty and joy and gratitude expressed with flowers. Very cool!!

My seeds were mislabeled and after 3 years of growing, under the heavy overgrowth in my hoophouse, I realized they were not yellow flowers. I seeded again and these are the first flowers after 2 years growing. My heart is full.
