It can be so frustrating when you’re all gung ho about growing things and your plants just aren’t thriving!

You’ve added the ‘good stuff’ from the garden centre, you’ve watered like you’re supposed to, they’re getting enough sun, you even bought your plant from a local farm and still…meh.

It’s probably a soil/compost/mulch issue!! Just like you, plants need the right environment and a balanced diet to thrive.

Most amendments you buy are on the acidic side, and most plants like a neutral environment…meaning a PH of 6.5-7.

Correcting the PH can include adding a ‘sweetener’ to the soil…but I don’t mean sugar. Dolomitic lime, or ‘garden lime’,(ground limestone) is the gold standard in gardening for reducing acidity in soil.

Use a PH test (or even better do a proper soil test!) to find out where your soil lands on the PH scale, and course correct!

Don’t be tempted to undo all your efforts by pulling out plants and replacing them into the same acidic soil…you can solve this one I promise 😎

Happy problem-solving!! May your plants thrive and survive 🙌🌿🤩

Waking up dahlia tubers is a perfect winter gardening job!

They need to be moved from their cold storage to a warmer location, placed in an unsealed ziploc or plastic box with pine shavings (sterile, dry soil mix or coconut coir will work too), spritzed with water and monitored.

Air flow is also important for small spaces!! Make sure you have a fan of two on the go to keep things fresh and not stagnant.

Wakes up time!!
