Langford has a new distillery! Ryes and Shine opened just last year and features cocktail-friendly spirits and premix cocktails. They’re coming to the Cork and pouring samples of apple pie and coffee liqueurs and their Jukebox Gin this afternoon from 2 to 6. Cmon in and taste something different. Cheers!

Ever tried fruit wines? They can be surprisingly tasty. Lots of folks who are suffering tannin allergies can drink these wines and not suffer headaches. And they don’t have to be sweet. Maan Farms from Abbotsford produces a line of dry fruit wines that pair well with food or can be used in tasty spritzes. We are sampling fruit wines from Maan Farms this afternoon at Cork and Barrel. Oak Bay’s favourite block party is back next Wednesday during the Oak Bay Summer Market as our suppliers pop corks on over 50 wines, 25 craft cocktails, a dozen distilled products and ciders and even half a dozen meads for the August Wine in the Courtyard from 4 to 8 pm. Cruise the market then drop into Athlone Court and discover your next favourite. Cheers!

We’re delighted to share that three wines from our 2025 vintage — Salish Sea, Ortega, and Intertidal — each received a silver medal at the Cascadia International Wine Competition.

We’re incredibly proud to see these wines recognized, and especially happy that Julia and Adrian’s first vintage at Sea Star is already an award-winning one!

Come try them while you can, some will likely be sold out by the end of summer!

Cork & Barrel is the only Oak Bay liquor store owned and operated by people who live in Oak Bay. Being part of the community is a huge part of what we do, from sponsoring our popular Wine in the Courtyard events during Oak Bay festivals to donating all our bottle returns to the Fifth Garry Oaks Scouts to support their program. Our newest endeavour was to sponsor a sculpture as part of the Oak Bay Arts Alive project that places sculptures at various locations throughout the community. “Reintegration” by Robert Turriff is a tribute to the artist’s desire to repurpose materials into new statements. It’s a figurative piece constructed from welded steel scraps, wire and other industrial materials. Drive by its location at Beach and Landsdowne.

They started rumbling by my house at six this morning. Now they stretch along six blocks of Oak Nay Avenue. Hot rods, muscle cars, antiques, restorations, even a kitted out semi. Car culture in full splendour. The Oak Bay Collector Car Show is on now. C’mon down for a trip down nostalgia lane, then drop into Athlone Court and join us for Wine in the Courtyard for 11 to 3.
