Three years ago, 30 Acres Farm was just an idea.
None of us grew up farming.
We didn’t inherit generations of knowledge.
We simply bought 30 acres and decided to learn.
Since then we’ve made plenty of mistakes, and we’ve learned something from every one of them.
Our first garlic crop produced around 600 pounds, but we only sold about 80 pounds. We quickly realized that growing a crop is only half the challenge.
Last year we planted an entire field of Peaches & Cream corn.
It looked amazing.
Unfortunately, it turned out to be the wrong variety for what we wanted to offer, so we made the tough decision to plough the entire crop back into the field.
It was frustrating, but that’s farming.
This year has been all about starting fresh.
We spent days rebuilding our tiller after a major breakdown, getting our equipment back into the field, and yesterday we planted this year’s sweet corn.
We’re not saying it’s going to be a great crop yet. It’s only been in the ground for a day.
Now we wait.
In the next few weeks we’ll also be harvesting around 400 garlic bulbs, our best garlic crop yet.
We’ve also realized something important.
Growing produce alone probably isn’t enough for a small farm to survive.
Our dream is to create products from what we grow.
Seasonings.
Garlic powder.
Honey products.
Jams.
Pickles.
Sauces.
We’re still figuring it all out, and we want you to be part of the journey.
If you’re looking for a page that only shows perfect harvests, this probably isn’t it.
If you want to follow a family learning, making mistakes, fixing equipment, celebrating the wins, and building something from the ground up, welcome to 30 Acres Farm.
This is only the beginning. 🌱🚜🧄🌽
