formed in January 2016 from the merger of North Waterloo Farmers Mutual and Oxford Mutual. These two parent companies bring together a combined total of more than 250 years of experience serving rural Ontario’s insurance needs. OXFORD MUTUAL INSURANCE was formed as a result of an amalgamation of two farm mutual insurers in 1973. The roots of these two companies dated back to 1878 and were based in
the rural Ontario communities of Oxford, Middlesex, Elgin and Perth Counties. Originally, policies were written focusing exclusively on fire insurance but over the years, the needs of the policyholder/owners changed substantially. Broader and different coverage was requested. Oxford Mutual continued to meet those needs with the assistance of the mutually owned Farm Mutual Reinsurance Plan Inc., and their mutual insurance trade association, Ontario Mutual Insurance Association. In 2015, following an approval vote by their mutual policy holders, Oxford Mutual merged with North Waterloo Farmers Mutual Insurance Company. NORTH WATERLOO FARMERS MUTUAL was established on June 9, 1874 when a number of farmers from the 3 northern townships of Waterloo, Ontario held a public meeting to form an independent farm mutual. The Company issued 200 policies in its first year and eventually expanded its operations into other counties. The philosophy of meeting the needs of the policyholders, understanding exposures and limiting potential for loss through prevention, had proven to be a simple and effective growth strategy. The directors, being farmers themselves, personally applied their knowledge and experience whenever possible. By 2014 North Waterloo Farmers Mutual Insurance Company was one of the largest insurers of farm property in Ontario, offering a variety of innovative insurance products with a continued emphasis on loss prevention. In 2015, following an approval vote by their mutual policy holders, North Waterloo Farmers Mutual Insurance Company merged with Oxford Mutual
