Though I just finished planting the veggie field a few days ago, harvesting has already begun in the backyard gardens! Garlic scapes, strawberries!! and Haskap berries. And, yes, those are not berries, but chipping sparrow eggs in another nest in the berry bush. Busy, busy birds!

Whoah, some Haskap berries are already dropping! Though I still find them on the tart side, they do make great jam and a handful is a refreshing treat after coming in from the field. 😋 On another note, the Robins and sparrows are done with their nests, so I’ve taken them out of the berry bushes. Gotta hand it to those Robins and their construction skills, it’s like they cemented it in the branches! Any educators out there looking for some natural science artifacts? I’m happy to give them away… Red winged blackbird nest soon to come, too.

This is Day 5 of planting the field. I was happy to see the bees arriving early this year! They’ll 🐝 happy to learn that in addition to the garden, I’ve planted a new sunflower patch and more flowers among the vegetables. Can you see Willow in the shade of the ATV? She’s not helping at all as I plant 100 or so tomato seedlings. 😓 By the way, we are still for sale. Make us an offer we can’t refuse and you can get in on this fall’s harvest!

The critters visiting our back yard never cease to amaze me. This evening in close proximity to each other: Luna moth and Cecropia moth. Apparently, they cannot eat; their sole purpose is to mate and lay eggs and they’ll die in two weeks. The Luna moth, only 7 to 10 days!…. So, I went back outside to get better pics with my Canon camera, but Luna was gone; here’s a couple more phone shots of Cecropia. Check out that big body 😬, my hand for scale.

Happy Valentines Day! It’s been a while now since we had our goats; here’s a little goat love for you with a throwback of Laska and her baby from 2024. ❤️ I got a message just a couple of weeks ago from Laska’s new owner with a video of her and her new twin kids! All is well. You may recall, Laska was born on Valentines Day… her registered name in Valentin Laska. Slovak translation of Valentine Love. 💕
