Some Traditions You Just Can’t Let Go
For over 75 years the spring air at the Aldred Farm has often been filled for a few weeks with the sweet smell of sap steam coming from the old sugar shack... Boiling down the Maple Sap to beautiful Golden Syrup for the family’s own use and the enjoyment of many local neighbours.
After the 2016 syrup season it was decided the old sugar shack had seen it’s day. Dug and Judy Aldred and the family decided to take the modest annual syrup production from their sugar bush to a new scale and make Maple Syrup production a part of the farms income. A new sugar shack was built with a modern evaporator and the sap collection went from that arduous daily gathering from buckets to miles of vacuum lines for the 2017 season.
They are in their fourth year with the new sugar shack, and now with the addition of RO technology and few other upgrades are in full production making a plentiful supply of beautiful Maple Syrup.
