Almost 6 months later and I still come back to this video. 🤍
It’s the only video I have of just me and her in the hospital.
It was around 6am. The sun was coming through the window perfectly after the absolute chaos of the night before. Daddy was sleeping and for a little while, it was just me and the baby I had spent 9 months waiting to meet.
I had gone in at 41+4 for what was supposed to be a pretty normal induction.
Little miss had spent most of my pregnancy transverse/breech. She eventually flipped, but never quite got herself into the right position. I had walked Knox for days trying to get labour started 😂 and not one contraction.
Then we went in to be induced and she just wasn’t tolerating even the little contractions I was having. Along with a few other complications, everything changed quickly and I ended up having an emergency c-section.
Those first hours with her are such a blur.
I felt completely out of body. I was in so much pain, exhausted and trying to process everything that had just happened… while also desperately trying to be present because I knew these were moments I would never get back.
And now somehow that tiny newborn is almost 6 months old.
She sits up. She grabs everything in sight. She laughs and smiles and has this whole little personality that somehow feels like she’s always had.
And I look at this video and just want to reach through the screen and tell that version of me…
Hold her.
Smell her little head.
Stare at her as long as you want.
Forget everything else.
Because you’re going to blink and that tiny baby lying beside you in the 6am sunlight is going to be almost 6 months old.
And you’re going to wonder how the hell it went that fast. 🤍
