Chi Miigwetch Curve Lake First Nation for welcoming all to join your 7th Mnoominkewin ❤️

My friend Jamie and I drove up and after driving down the wrong road (whoops!), course corrected, and from the moment we arrived we were met with such warmth and welcome.

Miigwetch for the opportunity to learn and participate.

1. I paddled a canoe (Jamie steering at the back) out into the mnoomen to harvest and sow.

2. The beautiful view of the lake and some of the mnoomen & canoes from the shore.

3. Roasting/drying the mnoomen --the delicate balance of not too much fire, but not too little fire. It needs to dry, but not cook.

We have such beautiful, old, wise trees here on Turtle Island. Can you imagine what a hundred+ year old tree has witnessed in its lifetime? 😭

They give us so much, not the least of which is the very air we breathe, but also homes for birds, animals, moss and lichen, food, medicine, mycelial networks, healthy soil, not to mention just an overwhelming sense of calm and wellbeing when we take the time to sit and be with them.

I find it hard to believe that a corporation can have the protections and legal rights of "personhood", but we don't offer those same rights and protection to the trees, when they are essential to our very existence.
