Wentworth Creek Farm

Wentworth Creek Farm Wentworth Creek Farm is owned and operated by Kim Frank and Troy Burgess. We took over the farm in 2009. It has been in my family for over 100 years.

We have just recently restored the old farm house and are beginning to rejuvinate the farm business. We are a seasonal farm that provides local, naturally grown produce to our costumers. We raise chickens and pigs for meat and hens for eggs. There is 55 acres of farm land most currently being used for pasture. There is a two acre hopyard where we grow 7 varieties of hops. We grow haskap berries an

d are in the process this fall of expanding our fruit tree orchard and preparing ground for raspberries, currents, gooseberries, strawberries and rhubarb.

This was Max’s summer. Clear skies ahead until he was ready to bale then the skies darkened and opened up. Poor fellow couldn’t catch a break.

Day 2 of the Maritime Angus Association Junior by Field Day and Show concludes the weekend. The kids showed their heifers today. Daphne was first in heat for showmanship which allowed her to move into the champion showperson for intermediates. She showed well in her conformation heat. Max had a tough heat and was up against some great show people in his senior showmanship heat and was third in his confirmation heat. What a great group of kids and families to spend the weekend with. Finished the day with a BBQ lunch

Day 1 of the Maritime Angus Association is in the books. The kids got to try AI on a few uteruses, always an opportunity to judge some cattle, a tour of a few farms between here and Canning, and ended the day with a banquet. I tried my hand at treat making for the kids goodie bags, cooked 35lbs or prime rib and served 75 people a supper of prime rib , pulled pork, ribs, wings, salads, and desserts. Missed a picture of desserts before they are mostly gone!!
Tomorrow is show day.

Red currants are all picked and headed to the freezer. I have spent the last couple years training my bushes to grow upward and not outward so each bush doesn’t encroach on another bush in the row or on other rows in the garden allowing me to pick easily around each bush. Yields aren’t increasing yet but it is getting easier to sit in between the rows and pick. Now to pick the black and white currants.
Raspberries are another story. They are going wild and popping up everywhere. Next spring I am going to have to pull canes and relocate or discard.
