We are looking for two part-time employees to join our family farm operation this coming season! This is a great opportunity to work outside and gain experience with small-scale organic agriculture.
JOB DUTIES
Tasks include, but are not limited to:
- Garden work: field and garden bed preparation and clean up, seeding, transplanting, weeding, crop care (irrigation, pruning, trellising, etc.) using tools, small equipment and by hand
- Harvesting: harvesting fruits and vegetables efficiently, safely, and consistently
- Safety and biosecurity: cleaning and sanitizing tools, following farm policies related to food safety and pest/disease control
- Livestock: working with small layer and broiler chicken flocks
- Communication with supervisors daily regarding work needs
- Customer service: dealing with customers for U-pick and farmgate sales
- Repairs and maintenance: helping maintain farm infrastructure (e.g., fencing, irrigation, etc)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior organic farm/garden experience is preferred but not required
- Physically fit (able to bend for long periods of time, lift up to 22kg (50lbs)
- Strong work ethic and positive attitude throughout long days of physical, repetitive work in all weather conditions
- Able to take direction, learn quickly, ask for help and clarity as needed, and accept and act on constructive feedback
- Ability to work well in both a group setting and independently
- Ability to take initiative, work efficiently, and pay attention to detail and quality
- Able to work in all weather conditions (rain, sun, or snow)
- Flexible: able to adapt to shifting priorities and conditions and help out where needed
- Reliable means of transport required
- Basic English language required
POSITION DETAILS
- Reports to: Manager or supervisor (dependent on task/role)
- Status: Hourly wage
- Schedule: Seasonal; approximately 10 hours/week (two 5 hours shifts/week) from April to mid-Sept; plus approximately three 5 hours shifts in October)
- Start date: Early-mid April
- Location: Winlaw, BC
- Compensation: $18-22/hour, in line with experience and qualifications
