On the heels of Canada Day, we want to celebrate the brave parents and grandparents who came here seeking a better life ๐จ๐ฆ
Zorba's founder, Jim, was living in post-war Greece in 1957 and was desperate to escape the disparity caused by famines that ravaged the country. With the support of his family, he travelled alone to Canada on a 14 day voyage across the Atlantic Ocean, carrying with him only the clothes on his back, the well wishes of loved ones and enough of the English language to say โI like a job, any job please!โ.
Never did he dream that by taking such a life defining risk to leave home, he would work 18 hour days, feeding his hunger for knowledge and new opportunities. From the fruits of his labour in his new country he would come to launch a specialty pizzeria as a flagship restaurant during the opening of a future destination hotspot of Winnipeg, The Forks Market.
There are many stories like this across our nation and we're proud to represent one of them. Thank you to everyone who comes by our shop and fuels Jim's, and now his daughter Penny's, dreams all these years later.
