Have you ever wondered what Oxus means?
Or what inspired the name of our flagship beer, Transoxania? 🍺
Our founder was born in Tajikistan and later immigrated to Canada, bringing with him a deep appreciation for the culture, history, and great beer.
The name Oxus comes from the ancient name for the river now known as the Amu Darya, which still flows today between Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Afghanistan. It originates from the glacial waters of Tajikistan’s towering mountains, carving its way through the heart of Central Asia. 🌄🌊
Long before borders were drawn on maps, rivers and mountain ranges like these were the natural dividing lines between civilisations — and the Oxus was one of the most significant of them all.
The word Transoxania means “the land beyond the Oxus” — a name once used to describe the region that includes Tajikistan. Today, it lives on as our flagship West Coast–style IPA — bold, hop-forward, and brewed with a spirit of adventure.
Stop by and share a pint as we celebrate our roots, our love for cultural exchange, and the unmatched hospitality that defines Central Asian culture.
Tried Transoxania? Let us know what you think! We love hearing your thoughts — whether it’s your first sip or your go-to pint. 🍻
