The Hill Doesn't Care How Old You Are.
There’s a conversation you have to have with yourself when you hit a certain age. It’s not about the knees. It’s not about the lungs. It’s about the voice in your head that starts listing all the reasons you should sit down and stay down.
I almost listened to that voice today. Spent hours talking myself out of this walk. But I laced up anyway. Stepped over the rocks. Climbed the hill. Stumbled. Got back up. And did it again. And again. Five times.
The other night, a friend—same age as me, 75—told me all the things he can't do anymore. I looked at him and thought: You're choosing that. We build our own prisons with the stories we tell ourselves. If you tell yourself 75 is the end, it is. If you tell yourself it's just another number, it is.
Uphill is hard. Downhill is hard. Standing still is a guarantee of decline. There's no easy route. There's only the route you take or the route you avoid.
Here’s the truth that nobody wants to tell you: After 70, if you don't work on it, it works on you. It takes your strength. It takes your balance. It takes your dignity—one quiet day at a time. The only antidote is stubbornness. Raw, unglamorous, sweaty stubbornness.
This isn't a workout video. It's a reminder. The body follows the mind. And the mind has to be the one dragging the body out the door.
Fix yourself. Before gravity fixes you for good.
