Ungrateful Children! By Michael Baisden

As parents we work ourselves nearly to death to provide for our children...true they didn't ask to be here, but we struggle year after year to make sure they have a better life than we did.

But children today feel a sense of entitlement for things that were luxuries for us, like a debt free college education, or 42' flat screen TVs, lap top computers, the latest cell phone, and their own bedroom. How many of us shared a room with another sibling, if not two or three?

But maybe that's our fault as parents for not doing a better job of instilling values along with life's comforts. It's a challenge to balance being friends with your children with being a disciplinarian. That job is made even more difficult when our children achieve financial success or graduate with a college degree...then all of a sudden they start thinking they know something you don't, or they're somehow more worldly...what a joke!

It's hard to keep from laughing in their faces at the thought of what lies ahead of them. Their quick wit and college degrees won't prepare them for this thing called "life!"

Yes, children are often ungrateful and hardheaded... even into their late 20's and 30's. But in the end our success as parents depends on how well they bounce back when life knocks them down. Maybe then they'll listen to the voice of experience...or maybe they won't. I'm just going to sit back and watch the show; I've done my job.

Now, somebody pass the popcorn and M&M's, the show is about to begin! lol ~ Michael Baisden
