Danger-Bar is officially 1 year old!
Here’s a little update about our journey so far. More specifically what we are doing and what our core mission is. A lot has happened since we sold the first bar. But first I want to start off with a couple thoughts about risk which I will come back to at the end.
Risk is the likelihood that the actual outcome will be different than the expected outcome. Risk also means more things can happen than will happen. Ultimately, something will happen but many things can happen and just because something should happen, doesn’t mean it will. I think it’s important to understand risk before you invest a penny into anything.
Okay, so for those of you who don’t know, just over a year ago I founded a start up company called Danger Bar Food Company Inc. What do we do? We make healthy nutrition bars. What differentiates our products from others? We only use seven ingredients. That’s it. No refined sugar. No artificial sweeteners. No preservatives. No sugar alcohols, no low grade oils and no fillers.
What are the ingredients?
Organic Peanut Butter, Honey, Chia seed, Flax seed, Unsweetened shredded coconut, Organic Sunflower seeds and Raisins. Yes, raisins instead of dates. It’s different but I think it works.
That’s a brief summary of who we are and what we do. But why are we doing it?
There is a real Canadian consumer shift towards healthier and better for you foods that I think a lot of the bigger brands are missing. Consumers want healthier but in my opinion, the product these bigger brands are putting out keeps getting worse. A lot of complaints we heard were too chewy, too hard, chalky, weird after taste, terrible digestion, artificial tasting and full of chemicals, that again in my humble opinion aren’t great for human consumption. I am not a nutritionist or a scientist but I am a consumer just like you and this is how I feel about this industry which is why I started Danger-Bar. I said to myself if they don’t want to make a better bar then I will. I also talked to 100’s of people who felt the same way. Turns out we were right because the response to our bars so far has been incredible.
What is our mission?
Our mission is to empower people to live stronger, healthier lives. We believe that what we eat is fundamental to achieving this goal, which is why we’ve created a bar made only with wholesome, earth sourced ingredients - ingredients you know and trust. Inspired by an undeniable change in consumer behaviour and the need to raise the bar in our industry, we saw an opportunity to do better. And we did. Danger-Bar is more than just a snack, it’s a step towards a healthier future.
That is our actual mission statement. It is who we are and what we stand for. Our goal is to be the nutrition bar company you trust so much that you don’t have to check the label. At the beginning I started off with some thoughts about risk. Starting this company, investing my hard earned money was a risk but it was a calculated risk. I’ve been thinking about this business for years. I’ve been watching this industry and this specific market for years, mostly shaking my head in disappointment. I’ve done the research, had many meetings and concluded that this is indeed a good idea and the time to execute is now. Create a great product, build the brand and grow the business. Calendar Year 1 is officially in the books. We have set some big targets for 2027 and it would be awesome to have you follow our progress!
I also want to thank everyone who has bought a bar or a box or many boxes and all of the amazing retailers who have given us a chance in their stores! I also want to thank Goodlife Fitness for allowing me to come in and handout free samples! Starting this business, I knew I had an advantage living in Woodstock because the support for local businesses has always been incredible.
