We took a big step forward with the farm last week with Golden Alexanders' help.

The weather was pretty warm out there but we had the good fortune to welcome the rain at just the right time to feed the roots of all those new native plants.

Golden Alexander's owner Nick has chosen trees and plants suitable for our context and his crew quickly got things in place.

I can't wait for when both the flowers and the business begins to bloom!

Honeybees get a lot of attention, but native bees are the real pollinators! 🌼🐝

- Honeybees are managed livestock from Europe.
- North America has over 4,000 native bee species.
- Native bees efficiently pollinate wildflowers and crops.
- Their decline is quiet but serious.

Support native bees by:
🌸 Planting native flowers from spring to fall.
🌱 Leaving bare ground for nesting.
πŸ‚ Keeping hollow stems and leaf litter in winter.
🚫 Avoiding pesticides.

"Save the bees" means protecting our local species. Native bees are essential for our ecosystems!

A little relocating milkweed this morning to encourage the monarch population at the back of the farm.

It's incredible how quickly they populate even in a field that's had roundup obliterate the weeds and remnants of last year's wheat earlier this spring.

I'm hoping they thrive in their new, longer term home so we can welcome more butterflies.

All the way from Sietse Elsinga's wholesale greenhouse, Frisia Flora (in Beamsville, near the Niagara region), to the earth of rural Wyoming, this is now day three of lavender planting.

It's finally June, my favourite month of the year, and I'm happy that I get to plant each one of these lovelies into the ground. Altogether there are 230 lavender to plantβ€οΈπŸŒ³β˜€οΈπŸŒΌ
