I have been knocking on doors, speaking to as many residents as possible. This time of year, it can be a challenge to catch people at home in the short time after work and before dark. Thank goodness daylight is sticking around a little longer each day and that the ice is melting.
I have enjoyed meeting so many of you. In a small community like ours there are hundreds of connections with people that you might not know you have, either through family or coworkers or children that were friends with each other. Iโve bumped into former teachers of my children, friends of my parents, several of my own customers, and acquaintances. There is so much to learn talking to your neighbours. I want to know what concerns people have for our district and municipality, as well as hear what people enjoy and appreciate most.
There are many young couples working hard and raising families. When asked what concerns them, they often havenโt had time to think about it. Some husbands/dads are away working while the wives/moms are here holding down the fort. It's important that we continue to build our community as a place these young families are proud to call home.
Nearly everyone Iโve spoken with, even if they have concerns, share a genuine love for this area that we live in. This is impressive. Regardless of the vibe we might get from social media, it speaks to the real lives people have here, in our wonderful corner of the province. It is special and boosts my own appreciation of the community.
Among other topics, I have learned of the water issues that many people on a stretch below the airport have been dealing with. A call for more sidewalks, providing safer routes to walk is a common interest in several parts of our district.
I am here to listen to you, to engage in discussions, and bring your points forward to the council. Every voice matters and contributes to our growth and improvement as a community. It would be my honour to represent and support you, the people of our district. If elected, I will take the responsibility seriously and will give it my best effort.
Election day is tomorrow. You can vote in-person at the municipal office, 8am - 7pm. You can also vote from the comfort of your home anytime and it only takes a minute by phone or online. If you have any questions, or need assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out.
I thank so many of you for your time and support. It is most appreciated.
