Putting the garden to rest is interesting work, mentally and physically. Some saving seeds, like nasturtium here. Some last means of harvesting and preserving (smoking tomatoes for the best tomato sauce of all) and drying hot peppers for my culinary salts. There is the timeline of frost and ultimately the first snow after which nothing in the garden can be cleaned up, organized and readied for hibernation anymore. I am bringing my last veggie box of the season into town this week. And between that and the snow is when i have to come to terms with the change of seasons. Let the work and sweat and investment of the summer be a thing of the past and settle into a different rhythm of more rest, more time for my kids' own interests and for socializing and doing other things in life. The difference between summer and winter is a very distinct change of pace and focus for a northern market gardener. It's great, always refreshing, sorely needed and grounding in its own way.

It's been a great farmer's market season this year. I've enjoyed every single one of them, from bringing seedlings early in June to vegetables, herbs and flower bouquets as we move through the summer.
I want to thank all those customers who show up every week, encourage me, get excited about the produce, assure me that the price is right, even help me re-stock the shelves, get inspired to grow their own food and flowers and tell me how well their seedlings are doing, who show their love and appetite for locally grown food and support a small business like mine so continuously! I can't express my gratitude enough! My work and sense of success is measured and rewarded by your appreciation which alone makes it so worth it.

Last farmer's market of the season today, with an appropriately brisk temperatures opening the doors to the Fall season.

At Madeline Lake Market Garden I harvested lots for today, expecting our first good frist tonight. (So timely...)

We will have lots of carrots, tomatoes, herbs (French sorrel, parsley, chives, cilantro, mint, Peruvian black mint, and anise hyssop (dry it for your winter tea, it's amazing!), cucumbers, tomatoes, kale and Swiss chard, lettuce, radishes, beets, cabbage, leeks and the last big flower bouquets of the season.

Come and enjoy the last farmer's market day after a beautiful summer season.

Cabin on skids with or without lot for sale in Hay River. 12×20ft, two storey, very solid built (6" stickframe with 10"floor), well insulated with woodframe windows and lots of creative eco friendly wall finishes and added details, fully wired for on grid power, alternating steps staircase to upstairs, woodstove and propane wall heater, propane cookstove, sink and gravity fed water with upstairs watertank, nice kitchen and cold storage room.
The cabin is built to last. The only indoor plumbing feeds from the watertank to the kitchen sink and drains directly outside. A shower and simple toilet can easily be added as there is an extra room which used to be a cold storage room. Currently there is just an outhouse.
It's a very cosy and warm place if you like it rustic.

The cabin is built on 10x12 inch skids so it can be purchased with the lot OR separately and moved to a different lot. It would be a perfect cabin to move to a scenic spot and rent out as an AirB&B as it is both beautiful, reliable and easy to take care of.

Asking price for the cabin is $60,000 obo. The price for the lot (end of the West Channel, very quiet and spacious corner lot) is $20,000.
