New Producer: Meet Alba Martínez, the third-generation female w**emaker behind Lagar de Pedregales in Rías Baixas, Galicia. 🇪🇸

We love discovering producers like Alba, who share our belief that great w**e starts with healthy vines and quality fruit.

Small production, hands-on vineyard work, old vines and minimal intervention are her w**emaking principles.

She crafts a beautiful range of Albariño w**es, from fresh and vibrant styles to more complex, textured expressions aged in concrete and oak. Each showing a different side of this incredible grape.

What we love most is how she brings her own ideas to the w**ery while staying true to the traditions her grandfather started over 45 years ago.

It’s Pfifferling season 🍄, possibly our favourite seasonal food here in Basel.

Sometimes it’s nice not to choose. At Prima, the ‘Chef Salad’ is whatever the boss is eating that day.

Today was the Herbssalat: Pfifferlinge, pumpkin, bacon, walnuts, tomatoes and truffle oil.

Very tasty. Recommend.

And if you don’t get the chance to try it there, experiment at home. For the w**e, pair with Chenin Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Gamay or even a lighter Garnacha.

Xarel.lo (pronounced ‘chah-RELL-lo’). It’s a white grape from Penedès, Catalonia, and definitely a quiet achiever.

You might already know Xarel.lo as one of the traditional grape varieties used in Cava. But it can make seriously good still white w**es too.

Fresh acidity, texture, body and a touch of salinity. It can range from easy-drinking styles to more complex w**es with real ageing potential.

And we’ve just added two Xarel.lo w**es in the Off Piste line-up. Two different expressions from Giró del Gorner, a family run, organic w**ery: La Serdalla, which is young and fresh and Els Garrofers, which is more complex, aged on lees and with some oak.

If you’re a fan of Vermentino or Macabeo/Viura, this is a worthwhile grape to explore. **e **eco

Dead yeast in your w**e? Sounds weird, right? But tastes pretty good.

Lees are the yeast particles left behind after fermentation.

And ageing w**e on them can add texture and complexity, sometimes bringing bread or toast notes you find in certain white and sparkling w**es (not that it’s limited to just these w**e styles).

Some w**emakers even stir them back through the w**e (called bâtonnage) to encourage more contact.

So, next time you want a w**e with a little more texture, ask: 'Has this been aged on lees?'

We often choose w**e by the grape we already know. Sauvignon Blanc. Pinot Noir. Cabernet Sauvignon.

But there are hundreds of grape varieties producing beautiful w**es that rarely get the same attention.

Grolleau Rosé from Domaine du Haut Bourg in the Loire Valley is one of them.

Made from a grape native to the region, it's pale, delicate and easy to drink - strawberry, raspberry and sour cherry, bright acidity ….

It's a rosé that's perfect with seafood, a charcuterie board or simply a bowl of salty snacks shared with friends.

One for anyone curious to drink beyond the usual grapes. **e **eDiscovery **eco

Rosé is usually made from black grapes. But there are some exceptions.

Panorámico Clarete from Rioja is made by fermenting Viura (white grapes) alongside Garnacha (black grapes). It's a traditional style known as Clarete that has been part of Rioja's w**emaking history for centuries.

This is Panorámico's modern take on it.

The result is a beautiful salmon-coloured Spanish rosé with fresh citrus, cherries, strawberries, and a lovely smooth texture.

It's one of those w**es that doesn't fit neatly into the category and reminds you there isn't just one way to make rosé (and that's why we like it!).

This week’s W**e Fundamentals course in Basel 🍷

Every group is different. Different questions. Different preferences. Different ways of describing the w**es (one of my favourite parts).

This week’s group came up with some wonderfully creative (and very entertaining!) tasting notes. And that’s what makes it interesting. .

Thanks to those who came along and engaged so well. It was a relaxed and interactive evening, and as always, no previous w**e knowledge was needed.

The fires affecting communities across Spain, France and Italy have left us saddened and concerned.

Our thoughts are with everyone who has been forced to evacuate, those who have lost homes or livelihoods, and the firefighters, volunteers and emergency services working tirelessly to protect lives and communities.

As a w**e business, we also know that behind every bottle is so much more than a vineyard. It's years of hard work, families, livelihoods, and a commitment to the land. Every vineyard reflects years of care, patience and dedication before seeing any return.

Among the many regions under threat, we are especially worried for Sierra de Gredos, where our w**ery partners - Barbara from Las Pedreras and Daniel Ramos - are among the many people living through these fires. Our thoughts are with them, and with every grower, w**ery, family and community impacted across Spain, France and Italy.

An evening of Umbrian food, small-production w**es and great conversation.

It was wonderful to see everyone gathering around the table to discover the w**es of Agri Segretum, share stories and enjoy a relaxed evening with friends, old and new.
