A fantastic new addition to Basel’s dining scene. We visited as a group of 8 adults plus my dog to celebrate my birthday… and the experience delivered on every front.

All of us opted for the teppanyaki/hibachi, with an additional selection of sashimi and sushi rolls to start. Watching the dishes being cooked and stir-fried right in front of you adds both theatre and trust. You can see the quality of the ingredients and the precision in ex*****on. The freshness across the board was outstanding.

HIGHLIGHTS: The undeniable star of the show is the Kagoshima Wagyu beef: perfectly cooked, incredibly rich, that melts-in-your-mouth. It’s why real Wagyu has its reputation. Even my dog Coco received a sample of the steak, courtesy from Chef Dennis who prepared slivers of ribeye for him!

VIBE: Service was warm, attentive, and handled a larger group smoothly, without ever feeling rushed. While value is always relative, this is one of those places where the experience, quality, and craftsmanship fully justify the price. I would pay more for the Wagyu, in Swiss standards.

VERDICT: A great spot for celebrations, group dinners, or when you simply want to treat yourself to something exceptional. Definitely a place we’ll be returning to.

Dennis and team have just put Basel on the culinary map of Switzerland… real kudos to this new gamechanger!

Stumbled into Restaurant Andry Milan in one of my work trips in the past. I have come back a few times since, but never with a big group. This time, we organized a group of 12 on short notice and they gladly welcomed us with a dog! This turned out to be the perfect spot. They have a loft-style space that gives big groups just the right amount of privacy without losing the charm.

We walked into Ayu Sushi Concept out of curiosity…and left already planning our next visit. 🍣 It was a first, but definitely not the last. The sashimi and tartares were incredibly fresh with surprisingly generous portions, and the real standouts were the tonkotsu and the cod! absolute winners.

What I loved most: despite being an AYCE concept, everything arrived beautifully plated in small portions, not scooped from a buffet line. It felt thoughtful, intentional, and elevated.
If I had to pick a bone: the service was just a little too fast for my liking. It’s like they anticipated our next bite before we did.

Good quality ingredients, flavourful dishes, and fantastic dog-friendly vibes. Just be ready for speedy service. Although they did not rush us at all, the food came way too fast.

I stumbled into Obicà years ago on a whirlwind Milan trip, and ever since, it’s become my comforting constant. No matter how busy the fashion district gets, I somehow always find myself upstairs at La Rinascente… ordering the same thing: lasagne and a burrata or caprese on the side. Some rituals are worth keeping. 🤍

• Fresh mozzarella made daily with selections from across Italy
• My personal go-to: lasagne + burrata (always)

Verdict:
Fresh mozzarella, fast service, and an easy atmosphere make this the ideal spot for a quick bite with a view. A reliable favourite when your day around the fashion district is packed but you still want something delicious.

This cold autumn weather calls for a hearty soupy dinner. I made Century Egg Congee, topped with Pork Tausi and Pork Floss, and a side of Siu Mai.

This is my dad’s favorite rainy day treat and it’s been a go-to treat each time the temperature drops below 20C. I’m sharing the recipe below:

CENTURY EGG CONGEE
1. Wash and soak jasmine rice in water for an hour. (You can prepare the Pork Tausi while waiting)
2. Stir fry garlic and slowly add the rice. Add a double portion of water to each portion of rice. Keep stirring. Add salt and pepper.
3. When the pot is boiling and the rice has softened, add sesame oil.
4. Cut up the century egg into cubes and add to the congee, stirring until desired consistency.
5. Serve hot, topped with Ma Hu (pork floss) and crispy garlic.

STIR FRIED PORK TAUSI
1. Heat a pan and add thinly sliced pork belly pieces. Turn constantly until oil comes out.
2. Add garlic and continue stirring.
3. Lower the heat and cover until it sizzles. Add water and soya sauce. Put the lid back on.
4. Slow cook the meat to while reducing the sauce.
5. Add salted black beans (tausi) and continue to cook slowly.
6. Serve on the side or serve on top of the congee.

There you go, a hearty meal for the cold days.

A little backstory: Nobu began as a partnership between world-renowned Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, actor Robert De Niro, and film producer Meir Teper. What started as a single location in New York has become a global icon, known for its elegant fusion of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine. Whether it’s the legendary Black Cod Miso or the meticulously prepared sushi, Nobu has become a byword for culinary luxury with edge.

If you’re hunting for the best mochi in town, Aiko’s Mochi is the spot. This tiny takeaway shop along Immermanstrasse (just follow the Shiba Inu wallpaper!) serves up the softest, most delicious Daifuku that is so authentic. It’s so good we drove 6 hours for an Asian foodtrip kind of weekend. This was such a highlight, we had to come back the next day for a last bite!

There’s always a queue outside Takumi, the original ramen bar on Immermannstraße that kicked off Europe’s ramen craze back in 2007. Inside, the same warm bowls of Tan Tan Men, crispy Chicken Karaage, and rich Tonkatsu keep fans (myself included) coming back for over 15 years.

Service was amazing—friendly, patient, and never rushed us through the menu. A standout start was the Plant a Tree cocktail: a refreshing gin and elderflower mix (yup, this is my potion!) with a thoughtful twist—they plant a tree for every drink ordered!

The menu was streamlined yet inviting —I honestly wanted to try everything. In the end, I opted for the 5-course tasting menu and was not disappointed.

🐠Sturgeon - fish cooked to perfection with a generous spuma infused with celery and pear. Sweet and salty.

🥣 Goulash - Hungarian staple but definitely differentiating - the flavors were clean and mild, and the meat and vegetables were not overcooked.

🍗 Chicken Paprikash - Another must try. While I have no comparison, I totally enjoyed this course, packed with flavors but not overwhelming.

→ Hunter’s Stew - Slow cooked beef cheeks drenched in gravy tasted really good but by this time, I was already getting to my limits.

🍨 But I could not miss the grand finale… Cottage Cheese Dumplings—hands down the best I’ve had in Budapest (and I’ve sampled plenty). Would absolutely come back—if only just for those dumplings.
