Aroha Wine

Aroha Wine New Zealand Wine Cellar
in Switzerland Kia Ora! My name is Philippa – I’m a New Zealander and have been living in Switzerland since 2015. Why wine? Why Aroha?

I lived in London for 15 years where I worked in the City. Returning to London after a project in Hong Kong I met a charming Swiss/English chap. Ten years and two kids later we decided to up sticks and move to Geneva! One of the perks of my job was being wined and dined at swanky restaurants in London. I realised I had a lot to learn! Luckily my office was around the corner from Berry Bros…

After

a few random purchases I enrolled in a wine course with Master of Wine Rebecca Lamont. I kept on with the studies and am now working towards the WSET Diploma. Aroha is the Māori word for love, and we love wine! Aroha Wine is my way of laying down roots in my new homeland and connecting with the land of my family…whilst enjoying some wonderful bottles along the way! Cheers!

What is the first New Zealand wine region that comes to mind, aside from Marlborough? 🍷

Does red wine belong in hot chocolate?

We've been seeing red wine hot chocolate all over social media these past weeks and decided to check it out for ourselves. A bit like espresso and tonic water, it sounds unusual...but could it be just as good?

Having recently spent a few days in the City of Light (Paris) we've been upping our hot choc game by melting dark chocolate in a mix of milk and cream. Honestly it's worth the effort, try it! Sweeten as you prefer...and add the red wine just before serving. We used a dash of Syrah - an energetic and spicy Hawke's Bay Syrah with aromas of blackcurrant, blueberry, cranberry, and a flicker of white pepper.

The verdict: we loved it! A grown up hot choc, enhanced with dark fruit flavours and a gentle peppery spice. Move over Baileys and mulled wine!

The gorgeous Haha Syrah is on sale until Monday - save 30% on selected wines! Free delivery in Switz for orders over FR100 - we'll drink to that!

Fantastic to have Sauvignon Blanc back in the shop!

Greywacke's Kevin Judd is one of Marlborough’s pioneer winemakers. He was the founding winemaker – the winery that put New Zealand on the wine map. After overseeing 25 vintages he left and started his own winery, Greywacke, to fulfil a long held dream.

Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc 2024

"Aromatic and evocative, bursting with pink grapefruit, tropical fruits, elderflower, lemongrass and snow pea, with a creamy lees undertow and flashes of herbal/mineral notes. A rich palate generous in tropical fruit and citrussy acid drive, which tightens up to a nicely crispy saline, long dry finish. 95 Points Emma Jenkins MW, DECANTER.COM

Greywacke Wild Sauvignon 2023

"Openly aromatic with both classic Sauvignon Blanc fruit – grassy and herbal with a hint of cassis leaf – but also a creamy/mealy impression allied to a stony note. This is a wine that you can enjoy now but which ages very well." 17.5 Points, Julia Harding MW

Pinot Noir SALE!

Pinot Noir Day is celebrated around the world on August 18.

20 years ago, Pinot Noir was barely planted in NZ. There had been some experimentation in the Wairarapa in the 1880s, but it was 100 years before NZ Pinot gained popularity and began to be planted more widely. Now, Pinot Noir is NZ's second most planted grape after Sauvignon Blanc. It is predominantly grown in cooler southerly wine regions including Central Otago, North Canterbury, Marlborough and the Wairarapa. There are a variety of styles from youthful, fruity and generous to fuller bodied, age-worthy wines.
Save 20% on Pinot Noir - with code PINOT, valid until end of day 25 August 2025.
