The latest addition to our cellar: 1834 Malvasia Barbeito. Nearly 200 years old.
Some wines are more than wine. They are pieces of history.

1996 Frasqueira Malvasia Cândida Fajã dos Padres. As rare as it gets…

Malvasia Cândida was the first grape variety to be planted on Madeira Island, in the second half of the 15th century. Introduced in Fajã dos Padres by the Jesuit Priests, the wine produced on that property soon became the most sought and wanted among all. In 1860’s Phylloxera destroyed almost all the Malvasia Candida , except in one isolated vineyard in Madeira - Faja Dos Padres. It is the same small vineyard where the Jesuit priests planted it for the first time in 15th century. Fajã dos Padres is an agrotourism farm with unique characteristics, where, in addition to vineyards, a wide variety of tropical fruits, vegetables and flowers are producedThis wonderful Frasqueira (Vintage) comes from that same vineyard, the only one today growing the very small quantities of Malvasia Candida. In November 1921, Fajã dos Padres was acquired by the Vilhena de Mendonça family who, to celebrate the first centenary of ownership of the property, decided to bottle these 531 bottles of Malvasia Cândida 1996. This wine aged for 25 years in the property’s cellar, located by the sea. All bottles are hand painted and individually numbered.

Fresh and intense bouquet with hints of coffee, wood, some earthy notes, cloves, nutmeg and molasses. Robust on the palate with a bold citric acidity. Lingering bittersweet in the aftertaste

50 years old blend 7 castas from Justino’s. Very interesting blend of very old wines: Boal, Verdelho, Tinta Negra, Caracol, Complexa and Moscatel Graudo. Not something you get to taste every day. Medium sweet. Wonderful wine!

1910 Malvazia Cândida – D’Oliveiras is a particularly rare wine. Although this grape variety is by far the most prized, it is now produced in negligible quantities. It is very difficult to cultivate and yields very little. And old Malvasia Candida wines are extremely hard to come by today, as they were produced in very small quantities.

Moreover, only a house like D’Oliveiras could have kept a cask of this wine for 115 years... They bottled only a small quantity in 2025 and we had the privilege of tasting it. An absolutely incredible wine. It left us speechless.

Lush aromas of honey, toffee, orange peel and spice. Silky sweetness balanced by vibrant acidity, with notes of dried fruit, coffee and caramel. Exceptionally long, elegant finish.

Recently wr had a privilege of revisiting several 19th century Madeira wines from the D’Oliveiras lodge.

Bottles like this rarely leave the island.

Madeira is a remarkable thing - even after more than a centuryin cask, these wines remain incredibly alive.

Madeira is a sommelier’s secret weapon because:

Longevity after opening – stays perfect for up to a year after being opened, ideal for busy wine lists.

Serving by the glass - you don’t need to be afriad of opening that good bottle to serve it by the glass. The wine will actually enjoy the extra oxygen and stay perfect for up to a year!

Versatility – dry styles for aperitifs, sweet for desserts, or in cocktails.

Complexity – intense aromatics and structured palate elevate any menu.

Food pairing-friendly – works with cheeses, seafood, roasted meats, and desserts.

Justino’s 30 Year Old Boal Madeira 🥃✨
Deep amber in the glass, with layers of toasted nuts, orange peel, molasses, and caramelized figs. On the palate it’s rich yet lifted—think roasted coffee, bitter chocolate, dried citrus, and a gentle saline edge that keeps everything in balance. Long, warming finish with echoes of spice, toffee, and walnut skin.
A masterclass in patience and precision. Slow sip, big reward.
