Day 18: Nohana Sencha

An old favorite is back! 💚

Swipe to meet the Nohana Sencha from Chiran ➡️

When we first visited Chiran in 2019, we were blown away by the teas. Nohana stood out as a blend of four cultivars: Yabukita, Asatsuyu, Yutaka Midori, and Asanoka.

After several years away from our collection, it returned with the 2026 harvest—and we found it even sweeter and juicier than ever before.

Expect a gentle nuttiness that develops into rounded vegetable sweetness, with notes of cucumber and zucchini. 🌿

Day 17: Chanoka Kukicha

Tea stems have plenty of flavor to share! 🌿

Swipe to discover today’s kukicha from Mr. Takada in Uji ➡️

Earlier in the calendar, we tasted karigane made from shaded tea plants. Today, this kukicha introduces a milder, slightly drier expression of stem tea.

In the first infusion, I notice notes of strawberry and jasmine before a roasted cashew nuttiness develops. The second cup brings those floral notes further forward. 🌸

Keep your leaves and compare the two infusions—you might find your favorite is the second! ☕

Day 16: Gyokuro Sou Sakamoto

Cotton candy, creamed corn, and savory umami—in a cup of tea? 💚

Swipe to explore Gyokuro Sou ➡️

Today, we’re heading back to Mr. Sakamoto’s farm in Shibushi to taste a gyokuro made from the Okumidori cultivar.

This is one of his most beautifully balanced teas. Soft sweetness meets rich creamed corn notes, with savory depth underneath and delicate floral aromas lingering after each sip. 🌿

Brew it slowly with cooler water, then take your time tasting. Which do you notice first: the sweetness or the umami? ☕

Day 15: Chanoka Mountain Sencha

Today’s envelope takes us into the mountains of Uji! 🌿

Swipe to discover a more subtle side of sencha ➡️

Mr. Takada has introduced us to some wonderful teas over the years, including this mountain-grown sencha.

After the sweeter, fruitier senchas earlier in the calendar, this tea offers a gentle contrast. It’s mild and sweet, with a slightly drier character that rounds out the finish.

Take a moment between sips to notice its texture and what lingers on your palate. Sometimes the quieter teas give you plenty to explore. 🍃

Day 14: Hojicha Tea

We’re returning to roasted teas today—with a different take on hojicha! 🤎

Swipe to discover Miyazaki Sabou’s version ➡️

Remember the sweet, creamy Noike Hojicha from Day 2? This one takes us toward a deeper roast, with earthier and woodier flavors.

It combines Yabukita, Kanayamidori, and seed-grown Zairai tea plants, bringing different plant characteristics into one warming cup. 🍂

As you sip, think back to Day 2. Do you prefer your hojicha sweet and mellow, or deeper and more roasted? ☕

Discover both styles and 22 more teas in our Green Tea Advent Calendar. Preorder yours through the link in our bio! 🎁

⚠️ Advent Calendar Spoiler Alert! 🍵

Day 13: Gyokuro Karigane Sakamoto

Love gyokuro? Today’s tea introduces its lighter side! 🌿

Swipe to discover Mr. Sakamoto’s karigane ➡️

We first learned about this tea while visiting him in 2019. Made with stems and leaves from shaded tea plants, it brings together gyokuro’s sweet, savory character with a gentler flavor.

Look for notes of cucumber, cantaloupe, and straw in your first cup. Then save the leaves—the second infusion is one of my favorites, with bright floral notes that remind me of lilac and hyacinth. 🌸
