Benefits of a Watermelon Nursery

Better Germination: Weather and pests in open fields can rot direct-sown seeds. A controlled nursery environment gives a high success rate.

Save Expensive Seeds: Hybrid seeds (like high-yielding F1 varieties) cost more. Planting one seed per cell in a tray avoids wasting seeds.
100% Field Population: You only transplant healthy, strong seedlings into the field. This prevents gaps and uneven growth in your rows.

Early Maturity: Nurturing seedlings for 2 to 3 weeks gives your crop a head start. You harvest earlier compared to waiting on direct field sowing.

Pest and W**d Defense: Tiny sprouts are safe from heavy field insects, heavy rain crusting, and aggressive weeds during their most vulnerable stage.

Subsistence agriculture may not require money but let no one decieve you, agriculture as a business needs money and sometimes huge sums. You need money to set up a farm and care for the crops. You also need money to harvest and transport the crops to the market. Sometimes you will have to put in the money and wait for long periods before you start seeing any returns on your investment. If you fail to do proper planning, you may plant your crops and end up in a situation where you do not have the money to care for the them. It is important therefore to do proper homework before you start your project.
